Design Focus: Ben Beanland

Words by MPDClick’s Home & Interiors Editor.

From last month’s coverage of New Designers 2012, MPDClick have selected a number of talented graduates as our ‘ones to watch’. One of these promising designers is Ben Beanland.

A recent graduate from The London Metropolitan University, Ben originally worked in the fine art industry before retraining in furniture design. ‘At Full Stretch’, Beanland’s collapsible modular furniture system, caught our eye at this year’s New Designers event. The reconfigurable chair can be transformed in to a series of stools, benches or tables. As work and living spaces become more adaptable and relaxed, home and interiors products are too adopting more functional designs, ‘At Full Stretch’ can be easily dismounted and hung on the wall using a clever peg system, perfect for space saving.

“The ash stool base and legs are held together solely by the tensile force of elastic shock cords which makes for a quick and easy assembly. This process allows for a more appealing, playful and tactile approach to flat pack furniture construction, which leaves the user more engaged with the piece and ultimately with the company and brand.”

Ben Beanland now runs a workshop in South London, click here to visit his official website.
