‘Forming and Fragmenting’ is a body of work by artist and student André Wee that captured our attention recently. Representing a highly sophisticated interpretation of MPDClick’s forecasted trend ‘Innovate’ for autumn/winter 11/12, this theme now clearly shows longevity for future seasons.
Currently studying at the Rhode Island School of Design, André is definitely an artist to watch with these examples demonstrating the high calibre of work Wee is capable of even while studying!
This particular series, “depict portraits that exist in an eternal state of transition. It is however, uncertain as to whether these figures are in the process of “forming” or “fragmenting” due to it existing in such an undefined state. This inability to define, ironically labels these entities as beings that embody the idea of a limbo. An experience of being of two different states at the same time and yet, not belonging to either.” – cargocollective.com
Within ‘Innovate’, instruction and calculation are seen as the remedy to adversity with generative design, where controlled, linear outlines dominate affecting print placements and details. An aesthetic illustrated beautifully within Wee’s artwork.
