Last month ECAL/University of Art & Design Lausanne presented at Design Days Dubai a series of projects created by students on the Master of Advanced Studies in Luxury Industry & Design (MAS-Luxury).
Design Days Dubai was ECAL’s first show ever in the Gulf region and the university chose to showcase work created on the ten-month programme of Master of Advanced Studies in Luxury Industry & Design (MAS-Luxury). Led by the French industrial and product designer Augustin Scott de Martinville, students have the opportunity to create work in collaboration with a series of luxury goods manufacturers such as Audemars Piguet (watchmakers), Baccarat, Bernardaud (porcelain), Christofle, Hublot (watchmakers), Nestlé, Nespresso or Zai (sports equipment).
Our favourite is the Hublot Luge – a luxury sled created in a limited edition of 10, with ash wood for the structure, hand-sewn leather for the seat, carbon fibre for the handles and steel for the runners. Created in partnership with Hublot, the design was created by Philippe-Albert Lefebvre, an MAS-Luxe student from Quebec who studied in 2009/2010, based on an original concept by Arno Mathies, a Swiss student who studied for the MAS-Luxe in 2008/2009 and who graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2011.
Other works on show include Guillaume Sasseville’s JUMP, a luxury skipping rope with silver handles created in collaboration with Christofle, with whom student Delphine Frey also created the Pleat ice bucket and Tomas Kral the Float tea set.
Elsa Lambinet’s Stretch was designed in collaboration with Baccarat to celebrate the 170th anniversary of its famous Harcourt glass – every 2cm of its width represents 10 years of its existence.
After Design Days Dubai ECAL/University of Art & Design Lausanne, Master of Advanced Studies in Luxury Industry & Design (MAS-Luxury), will be at Milan Design Week, where we will be featuring their new work on show.
