Fashion & Sports: Team GB Kit Revealed

Words by MPDClick’s Trend Journal Editor.

Yesterday saw the grand reveal of the official kit design for Team GB ahead of the London 2012 Olympics and the team here at MPDClick HQ love it!

Huge pressure was placed upon acclaimed fashion designer Stella McCartney, designing the kits in her role as Creative Director for Adidas, but she has come up trumps presenting a unique range of sport specific designed kits.

Adidas commentedWe’ve owned some of the British team’s sweetest moments since we took over as official kit supplier in 1984. And for the first homegrown Olympic Games in a generation, we’ve taken Team GB kit to the next level. The ultimate fusion of style and technology, British spirit has never looked so sharp.”

The design plays with deconstructed elements of the Union Jack flag, making for a contemporary, dynamic aesthetic. We love the detail placed on the sculpted necklines and graphic driven contours accentuating the wearers athletic build.

While some critics have complained that there is not enough red in the designs, MPDClick feel Stella has got it just right, combining modern aesthetics with innovative performance focused features. Team GB athletes agree too with track and field athlete Jessica Ennis commenting on Twitter “all of the kit is gorgeous!!” and Gymnast Louis Smith saying “GB kit is sik.. Buzzing about the prospect of going London”.

Proving to be the right person for the job, we now expect to see rising sales of Stella’s current collection for Adidas as London 2012 creeps ever closer.
