Singer songwriter Zola Jesus’s single Vessal and video is a powerful tool for this relatively new artist; showing her strength as a musician and vision for her chosen genre, organic electro.
The video depicts a barren arctic land filled with majestic beauty, perfectly representing her juxtaposition of sounds. In a recent interview with Tank magazine, the singer describes her intended sound as ‘clearly electronic as well as acoustic and organic’. This is reflected in Vessal’s video with flashes of microscopic organic forms, moving with the erratic beat, and then focuses on precise mineralised, almost metal looking stalactites as well as glittering snowscapes and dramatic moon and landscapes imagery.
