For this week’s ‘Design Focus of the Week’ we take inspiration from new brand LAQA & Co’s range of uniquely packaged nail pens and lip pencils that have been designed by the latest up-and-coming talents from the world of art and graphic design.
In an aim to differentiate themselves from other beauty companies, founders behind the start-up cosmetics brand decided to create a brand that could provide inspiration for young women to achieve their goals and provide alternative role models for them. By allowing their packaging to act as a canvas for young artists, who receive a profit share of each product sold, LAQA & Co not only support the creative industries but also add value and differentiation to their brand. Each different nail polish pen and lip pencil has its own unique packaging designed by artists including Soo Lee, Carol Del Angel and Foe and given a unique name such as Those Meddling Kids (a glossy black), Birthday Suit (a nude hue), Squid Ink (a shade of teal) and BMX Bandit (a vibrant red).
Whilst it is not unusual for beauty companies to use artists for limited-edition collections, this is possibly one of the first companies to use a fleet of different artists with a unique artwork for each nail colour. The brand has clearly thought about how consumers use products and the value they place on beauty packaging. MPDClick are big fans of the brand and the biggest question of all is, which one to choose?
