trends: a road less travelled

Words by Mpdclick’s Managing Editor…

Trends in travel that place adventure, discovery and culture at the epicentre of experience are growing in popularity. Whether it be trekking in Peru, one man and his tent, lodging with locals in Southern Italy or volunteering in the Amazon, the global travel industry is encountering a boom in extreme adventures.

Mudpie’s lead trend analyst Jo Hatch sums it up well – “In a world where we can’t get lost on the route from A to B there is a call for the surprise, discovery, and unplanned encounters”.

Today a huge demographic, ranging from those aged 18 – 50, want to be exposed to places that they may have seen in movies or books or yearn for far away, once-in-a-lifetime trips, in fact the travel industry expects 800 million more travelers by 2014.

It is based in this information that Mpdclick see Deep Travel as a key driver for future trends. In the coming months on the Trend Journal and beyond we will be uncovering regions, pursuits, pastimes and global events that will influence product aesthetics in seasons to come.
