Olga Vilshenko’s brand Vilshenko is fundamental for MPDClick’s a/w 13/14 trend Reflective as the Russian-born designer brings “an interesting mix of Soviet folk traditions to her modern take on Western luxury clothes.”
She cites her native country as a key influence on her work which sees a fusion of eastern heritage of craftsmanship and Russian folklore influences with western disciplines. Her s/s 12 collection comprises of “finely tailored separates rendered in modern silhouettes, finished with elegant and opulent touches.” (dazeddigital.com).
Strong references to Russian heritage is evident in her work with embroidery techniques, vintage jewellery and accessories. Meanwhile, her aesthetic is the idea of “Russian culture inspired by art literature as well as ancient embroidery techniques and sculptures of Soviet architecture.”
Vilshenko’s folklore patterns have a very fresh and contemporary feel, shying away from traditional styles and opting instead for an updated graphic feel.
