‘Moonrise Kingdom’ is a 2012 romantic comedy-drama directed by Wes Anderson and co written with Roman Coppola, featuring an all-star cast. Anderson’s films are instantly recognisable with distinctive film colour treatments, fonts and actors. His use of natural elements, methodical cinematography and warm primary colours has become trademark, noted in films including ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’, ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ and ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’.
This homemade aesthetic and almost hand-drawn cinema captures the golden glow that the title of the film invokes. Graphic Designer Beth Mathews has created a Wes Anderson film colour palette and a “Moonrise Kingdom” Pantone colour palette that depicts the essence of Anderson’s beautiful, charming and eccentric films.
Wes Anderson uses yellow and orange casts to convey a sense of whimsy and optimism; colour tones communicate emotional ideas and information and can easily be translated to real-life objects such as fashion and design. Colour choices can influence our mood, appetite and even heart rate, by implementing specific colours in mediums including film, photography, graphic and interior design, you can alter the mood of those you wish to influence.
