s/s 12 press preview: selected homme

Words by MPDClick’s Trend Journal Editor.

Danish brand Selected Homme’s spring/summer 12 offering is directed by the theme ‘MOD POP’ for its trend-led line – exemplified by pristine cuts and precision styling. The formal line however is titled ‘MOD (without the pop)’ presenting a more sophisticated approach to the theme.

Bright pop colours are evident throughout the trend story with cobalt blue chinos paired with a copper blazer standing out as a key colour contrast to invest in. Members only jackets are given quilted shoulder yokes and shine finished collar lining for a contemporary update while retro Mick Jagger graphic tees are guaranteed to sell well.

The formal line boasts dapper detailing such as suede elbow patches, tailored blazers with contrasting fabric collar detail and side neckline fastening. Relaxed styling and controlled punches of colour make this a very wearable and commercial range presenting looks for most occasions. Worn leather and suede oxfords suit the range range well in muted tones of taupe and brown while espadrille soles update the highly popular desert boot for the trend-led line.

Highly considered and quality detailing sets this brand apart from the competition with features such as jacket linings that make you want to wear the garment inside out. We predict big things for this brand moving into spring/summer 12.

s/s 12 press preview: selected femme

Words by MPDClick’s Trend Journal Editor.

Relaxed formality is the key phrase embodying Selected Femme’s spring/summer 12 collection. Inspired by snapshots from the Italian Riviera hotspot Portofino, floor length dresses, draped silhouettes and ethereal prints are key focuses of the range.

A cool yet vibrant palette reflects the Riviera feel with washed out neutrals enlivened with lemons, deep purple, electric blue and tangerine. Soft silk and chiffons give a luxe feel many garments, in particular a white maxi shirt dress with curved hem and slouched pockets.

Key pieces include a draped kaftan inspired dress in fresh yellow with soft pink and purple print as well as a high neck animal fusion print while a black suede bomber with panelled shoulders adds a harder dimension to the range – working particularly well with the feminine fabrications. Footwear and accessories subtly complement the range in block neutrals, simple punches of colour with a clear emphasis on wedges and flatforms.

art: felicia atanasiu

Words by MPDClick’s Graphics Trend Researcher.

The ability to create uncomplicated and clear, yet beautifully rich art from a mix of many different ideas and influences is a skill that is rare. Fecilia Atanasiu, born in Bucharest – Romania, seems to have no problem doing just that with her eclectic mix of beautiful patterns, flowers, figures and architecture.

Her delicate illustrations are stunningly crafted, with an air of authenticity and even a hint of psychedelia. In the featured piece (pictured main) she has drawn on her East European heritage to create a wonderful tapestry of style and influences, interwoven to an overall image that is innovative and captivating – with its distinctly Russian slant. The Antigua based illustrator is certainly setting a high standard for her contemporaries and has already gained notoriety with a range of clients and international awards.

Felicia Atanasiu’s work sits perfectly with our upcoming autumn/winter 13/14 trends, which looks to areas of Eastern Europe, providing inspiration for women’s prints and youth graphics for the season.

s/s 12 press preview: united nude

Founded by Dutch architect Rem D. Koolhaas, United Nude was launched in 2003 with the Mobius shoe and their designs now sold in over 40 countries around the world, they are establishing themselves as an iconic brand.

The aim of United Nude is to create elegance in innovative shapes and their spring/summer 12 collection doesn’t stray away from this. With fans including Lady Gaga, they continue to push the boundaries and create designs that are on the edge of surreal.  Boots, wedges, sandals and shoe boots have all been given a contemporary edge with sharp laser cut detailing, contrasting uppers and exaggerated laces. Classic courts are updated with geometric shapes in bright pink and versatile white, while mules feature an alternative wooden heel  with  slate grey and black uppers. Leather is prevalent on straps and panels but a modern aesthetic is offered on a shoe boot design with a metal wedge heel
